Recalled Riding Lawn Tractors Pose Fire Hazard

Husqvarna Professional Products Inc., of Charlotte, N.C., is recalling about 1,700 Husqvarna Riding Lawn Tractors, announced the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The fuel line on the rear-mounted fuel tank is too long and can come in contact with moving parts while the tractor is in use, posing a fire hazard. Although no injuries have been noted, the firm has received 53 reports of fuel line damage.

Nissan’s Boxy Cube Vehicle Pulled for Fuel Leak Hazard

Nissan North America Inc. is recalling 46,000 of its Cube hatchbacks, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Those included are 2009 and 2010 model-year vehicles that were manufactured between January 30, 2009 and July 30.

The NHTSA says tests conducted by agency regulators revealed that fuel spilled in excess of permitted federal standards when involved in rear-end collisions. This presents a dangerous fire hazard.

One Death, 22 Incidents From Nap Nanny Recliners

Baby Matters of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, is recalling about 30,000 Nap Nanny® Recliners due to entrapment, suffocation and fall hazards, announced the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). One infant death has been reported said the CPSC.

The agency is investigating the incident of a four-month-old girl from Royal Oak, Michigan who died in a Nap Nanny® used in a crib. According to preliminary reports, the infant was in her harness and found hanging over the side of the recliner, caught between the Nap Nanny® and the crib bumper.

Another Near Strangulation From Roman & Roller Shades

Because they pose a strangulation risk, Smith+Noble, of Corona, Calif. is recalling about 1.3 million Roman and Roller shades (1,160,000 Roman shades and 115,000 roller shades), announced the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Roman Shades: Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shade or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. Continue Reading »

Kariño Baby Pacifiers Pulled for Choking Danger

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that Antonio Flores, of San Ysidro, Calif., is recalling about 44,900 Kariño Baby Pacifiers because the pacifier fails to meet federal safety standards.

The nipple can easily separate from the base; the pacifier handle is too long; the mouth guard is too small; and there are no ventilation holes on the mouth guard. The pacifier could pose a choking and aspiration hazard to young children.

Bamboo Torches Recalled for Laceration Hazard

Atico International USA Inc., of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is recalling about 324,000 Bamboo Torches, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission just announced. The fuel canister that holds the wick of the torch has a sharp edge inside the lip of the opening that poses a laceration hazard when consumers try to remove the wick.

So far, the firm has received five reports of lacerations to fingers, including one that required stitches. Four of the injuries occurred when consumers were trying to retrieve a wick that had fallen into the canister.

Mini Bikes and Go-Carts Pose Fire and Burn Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that Baja Inc., d/b/a Baja Motorsports, of Phoenix, Ariz. has issued a voluntary recall of about 308,000 Baja Motorsports Mini Bikes and Go-Carts.

The gas cap can leak or detach from the fuel tank on the mini bikes and go-carts, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. In addition, the throttle can stick due to an improperly positioned fuel line and throttle cable, causing a sudden acceleration that is dangerous for users.

Playard Tents Recalled After Death of a Child

Tots in Mind Inc., of Salem, New Hampshire, has announced the voluntary recall of approximately 20,000 Cozy Indoor Outdoor Portable Playard Tents Plus Cabana Kits, said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC). About 85 are affected in Canada.

If clips that attach the tent to the top of the playard break or are removed by children, they can lift the tent and become entrapped at the neck between the rigid playard frame and metal base rod of the tent. This is a strangulation hazard.

Faulty Climbing Sticks Recalled

About 2,550 potentially defective Muddy Outdoors Tree Climbing Sticks (model year 2009) are being recalled, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

Manufactured in China by Muddy Outdoors, of Camdenton, Missouri, the bolts that secure the cam locs to the frame of the sticks that retains the rope around the tree can break, resulting in the cam locs detaching from the frame. This causes the retaining rope to detach and the climbing stick to release from the tree, posing a fall hazard to the user. Although no injuries have been reported, CPSC has received two reports of bolts breaking on a climbing stick.
